DD(Doordarshan) @50 – Nostalgia
DD celebrated 50 years on Sept 15. It was started as an experimental telecast starting in Delhi on 15 September 1959 with a
small transmitter and a makeshift studio. During our school days we were so very attached to DD. Later on when the cable television took over, the love for DD reduced and now its gone. In those days we used to have one of the best programs on DD. Among them I liked these a lot and never missed these programs.
TV Serials: Karamchand, Wagle ki Duniya, Mr.Yogi, Gul Gulshan Gulfam, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Sea Hawks, Alif Laila, Captain Vyom, Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Malgudi Days
Detective Serials: Byomkesh Bakshi, Reporter (launching Shekhar Suman), Tehkikaat and Suraag (starring Sudesh Berry)
Cartoons: The Jungle Book, Talespin & Duck Tales, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy
Epics: Mahabharat, Ramayan, Chandrakanta, The Sword of Tipu Sultan and The Great Maratha
Special programs: Bharat Ek Khoj, Surabhi
Song based programs: Chitrahaar, Rangoli, Ek Se Badkar Ek, Superhit Muqabla and singing contest like Meri Awaaz Suno
After the invasion of cable networks, people lost their love for the very old DD channel. At the time when DD had these serials,
they didn’t have competition, yet they produced such great television programs and music(check youtube playlist). But when the real competition began, they lost the battle.
Anyway, I feel nostalgic about DD and their programs and keep watching some of the serials and cartoons and songs which I have every now and then.
Below is the playlist on youtube which could make you nostalgic too
